Abstract
This automatic distortion analyser has been designed to improve operational efficiency in the maintenance centre of the international telegraph circuits. The analyser monitors 16 telegraph channels in a sequential order and analyses each channel for a character period. When it comes across a distorted character exceeding the preset limit, it registers a count on an electromechanical counter. It integrates the number of characters with distortion exceeding 30% or 40% within a four cycle period of 9.6 seconds and if there are 3 or more such characters it initiates a visual alarm as well as aural alarm to draw the attention of operating personnel indicating that the particular telegraphic channel is not workable. This facility is available for every channel. Every character that is being analysed is also registered for statistical analysis. The analyser can work on both telex and point-to-point telegraph circuits. In case of latter application, an alarm is given when the channel is resting on start polarity for more than 200 msec, instead of the normal stop polarity.
