Abstract

Electrostatic Microphones using foil electrets eliminate the need for a high voltage power supply which is required in a conventional condenser microphone. An electret is a piece of material which is permanently polarized electrically.

The present paper reports the design consideration of an electret condenser microphone using fluorocarbon foils as the electret. These electrets are about 25μm in thickness and are polarized by applying high electric field at elevated temperatures.
