Design of Magnetic Record-Reproduce Heads

Pages 543-546 | Received 16 Aug 1974, Published online: 11 Jul 2015

Abstract

Record-reproduce heads have an important role to play in all magnetic recording systems. In professional equipment separate heads are used for recording and playback, but in equipment for entertainment and educational purposes a single head is used. Since the requirements for the two types of heads arc slightly different, the design of a single head for both purposes has to be compromise. The paper describes the important factors involved in the design of tape heads.
