Abstract

In this paper the design of a 28 MHz counter capable of frequency, period, frequency-ratio, totalize and averaging modes of operation is described. It consists of a signal conditioner, a gate time-base, a gate control, a gate, a decimal counting assembly, and a readout/display. All elements except the signal conditioner, the time-base clock, and the display are implemented with digital integrated circuits. The counter has a 6-digit display. The operation of the counter is non-automatic and is limited to input signals of greater than 2 volts rms.
