Abstract

The propagation of various modes along the grounded artificial dielectric slab is studied. An approximate but fairly accurate analytical expression for the complex propagation constants for various modes is derived. Excitation of each mode along the artificial dielectric structure produces a beam in the radiation pattern. The possibility of designing a multiple beam antenna using a grounded artificial dielectric structure is discussed. Some experimental results are also reported.
