Multiple Scattering of Electromagnetic Waves in Clouds at Optical Frequencies

Pages 141-144 | Received 05 Nov 1975, Published online: 11 Jul 2015

Abstract

This paper describes multiple scattering of electromagnetic waves in clouds at optical frequencies. The scatterers are treated as spherical water particles with complex dielectric constant. The average normalized phase function, extinction co-efficient and scattering co-efficient are calculated using Mie formalism at four different optical wavelengths for cumulus clouds. Finally utilization of above calculations in computer simulation of optical scatter communication channels is discussed.
