Abstract

The recent trend in Modern Radar System design in India and elsewhere is to go in for a low-noise receiver front-end for achieving improved detection range. There are various types of low-noise amplifiers, but at higher microwave frequencies, the parametric amplifier has the advantage of superior performance in terms of noise figure along with low package requirements suited for a mobile role. This paper describes the design aspects of a single-port, non-degenerate, negative-resistance X-band parametric amplifier. A brief account is given on the areas of design, fabrication and performance.
