Abstract

The need for the convenient testing and ease of debugging data in digital systems for system evaluation and operation understanding has led to the emergence of a class of instruments known as Logic State Analysers. This paper is about the design and construction of such a logic state analyser in the laboratory. The analyser has actually been constructed in the laboratory. It has the capability of storing 8-bit data for 8 consecutive time intervals at the speed of the system under observation. Two modes enable one to store data either after a certain word has occurred at the input or at a particular clock time instant after initialization. Display of the data is then achieved at system speed in conventional 1–0 format on any cathode ray oscilloscope for quick translation of displayed information into the popular binary symbols. This promises a great reduction of testing time.
