Abstract

This paper deals with the design and development of a low-cost ship borne antenna system for maritime satellite communications in L-Band. The antenna system is simple in design, fabrication and installation and takes care of the maximum pitch and roll motions of a medium size cargo or passenger ship (+7° and + 25° respectively) without the need for any stabilization platform. The antenna gain is 16.5 dB and caters for a ship terminal G/T of–10 dB/°K.
