Abstract
A new hybrid circuit for four-quadrant multiplication is described in this paper. Linear and digital ICs have been used in this circuit which performs the multiplication of two time-varying analogue signals. The scheme mainly consists of a digitally controlled variable gain amplifier (DCVGA), an A/D converter and a sign bit circuit for getting the proper polarity of the output. The two quantities to be multiplied are fed to DCVGA, one in analogue form while the other in digital form. The new multiplier circuit described in this paper is specially useful in signal processing applications where one input is already available in digital form.
