Abstract
The paper surveys the important developments in circuit theory during the last twenty- five years. Areas covered are: General network analysis and synthesis methods, network topology, passive networks, active networks, digital filters, distributed-parameter networks, nonlinear networks, computer-aided analysis and synthesis methods and large-scale networks.

V. G. K. Murti
MURTI, VGK (Prof.): Born in Masulipatnam, Andhra Pradesh on October 3, 1933. He received the BE degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Madras, in 1953, the MEng degree from Yale University, New Haven, Conn., in 1957, and the PhD degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Illinois, Urbana, in 1960.
From 1953 to 1956 he worked for the Andhra State Electricity Department in India. After a year's service (1960–61) with the P.S.G. College of Technology, Coimbatore, he joined the Indian Institute of Technology, Madras in 1961 where he is now a Professor in Electrical Engineering. His current teaching and research interests are in the fields of Electrical Measurements and Network Theory.
