Abstract

The Satellite Microwave Radiometer (SAMIR), on-board the orbiting Bhaskara Satellite had been put into a new phase of operation in which, by virtue of the re-orientation of the satellite spin axis in such a way as to make it lie in the orbital plane, it has been possible to convert the microwave radiometers effectively into a scanning system.

The Bhaskara satellite was put into this mode in February, 1980. Preliminary results are presented in this paper to show the satisfactory performance of the radiometers at 19 and 22 GHz in this configuration and also to highlight the tremendous utility of this mode.
