Rai, B K (Lt. Col.) (Retd): Graduated in Electrical and Mechanical Engineering from Banaras Engineering College in 1949 in First Division and then did Post Graduation in Electronics from IISc., Bangalore. He was commissioned as regular officer in the Army from IMA Dehradun in the Corps of Signals. He later did another two years Post Graduate course in Electronics at the MCTE in 1959. He did a tenure at the Indian High Commission in UK and was on deputation to Air HQ for five years. He taught PG courses in Electronics at the MCTE and then moved to Department of Defence Production. In 1970, he took premature retirement from the Army to enter industry.

In early 1977, he led a UNDP Electronics Study Team to W. Germany Finland, UK and other European countries. In 1978, he was awarded Laghu Udyog Maharishi A R Bhat Award for his contributions in the field of small industries. He became a member of IETE in 1952 and served thrice on the Council of IETE. He also did three tenures as Hony. Treasurer of IETE. He was Chairman of the Lucknow Centre of IETE during 1975–76. He is Vice-President of IETE and Chairman of Industrial Coordination Committee. He is also Fellow of IETE.

He is the founder director of UP Electronics Corporation Limited and became its Managing Director in 1976. He is Chairman or Director of various Subsidiary Companies of UP Electronics Corporation and other public-sector undertakings.
