Abstract

Several techniques exist by which one can transfer instant of time or epoch from one place to another.

This paper deals with the role of earth stations in synchronizing clocks via satellite. Attempts were made to synchronize distant clocks located at Ahmedabad, Delhi and Madras via symphonie satellite, during STEP experiment. Later on, similar experiment was conducted between Delhi Earth Station and Raisting Earth Station (West Germany).

Earth Stations play a very important role in Satellite communications. In this paper, an attempt has been made to highlight the parametres involved to get the best possible synchronization of distant clocks with an ideal system and band-limited system.

Finally, experience gained during these experiments and further prospects with APPLE and INSAT Satellite are highlighted.
