Abstract
The field strength fluctuations in two line-of-sight microwave links, one between Dum Dum and Andul, and the other between Calcutta and Amdanga during the solar eclipse of February 16, 1980 are reported. A wavelike signal fluctuation of range 20 dB was noticed in the Dum Dum—Andul link during the eclipse. The fluctuation is interpreted as an eclipse effect superposed on the usual afternoon pattern of the signal variation. An alternative explanation in terms of eclipse-induced surface gravity waves is also discussed.
