The Meteor Wind Radar System at Waltair

Abstract

Details of the Meteor Wind Radar Equipment fabricated and installed at Nagarampalem field station of the Department of Physics, Andhra University, Waltair (17°43'N, 83°18'E) are presented. Some typical meteor echoes photographed by the system are depicted.

Devara, P C S: (Dr.) (b.1952 Feb. 5; Andhra Pradesh). Passed MSc (Physics) with Electronics as a special subject in first division in the year 1974 from Andhra University. Obtained PhD degree in the year 1980 from Andhra University for his thesis entitled “Study of Upper Atmospheric Winds and Radio Meteors Using Meteor Wind Radar Technique” which is the first of its kind in East Asia. Received YOUNG SCIENTIST AWARD from Andhra Pradesh Academy of Sciences in 1980.

In December 1970, he joined the Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology, Pune, as Senior Scientific Officer, He is now working there in ‘Cloud Physics and Weather Modification’. Dr. Devara is an Associate Member of IETE and a Member of Indian Society for Technical Education.
