Abstract

The Keller's geometrical theory of diffraction, which is popular for its simplicity and effectiveness has got a serious limitation that it gives a non-uniform solution to the edge-diffracted field. Many asymptotic theories have been developed to obtain a uniform solution. However, the complexity of the theories may not make them useful, where the accuracy of the solution required is not too stringent. In this paper, an alternative formulation is given, which is less complex and gives a uniform solution for an infinite half plane with an overall accuracy of better than 5%. The proposed formula is restricted to the sources at infinity.
