Pipeline Telemetry System

Abstract

This paper describes in brier the main features of the pipeline telemetry system used by Oil India Ltd., in the laid pipeline for transportation of crude oil from the oil fields of Nahorkatiya, Moran to different refineries at Gauhati, Barauni, Bangaigaon covering a distance of around 1200 km. The main function of telemetry system namely, remote control, physical parameter measurements, status indications, alarms annunciation, datalogging and leak detecting are covered in depth. The advantage of changing over to MSI and microprocessor technology are also highlighted. Finally recommendations for a more efficient and high performance pipeline telemetry system are given in concluding remarks.
