Abstract
In this paper, the evaluation of instrumentation system from individual analogue measurements to digital programmable systems used in test bed automation is discussed in brief.
The architecture and the advantages of programmable systems in general and of Digital Distributed Data Monitoring Systems in particular are then described.
The salient software and hardware features of one such system which is developed for a machine test bed for BHEL, Ramachandrapuram are brought out. Finally, an analysis is made of the future prospects and further refinements likely to be incorporated in such systems.
