Abstract
The paper presents a novel feeding scheme for excitation of microstrip patch array antennas. The feeding network consists of stripline power divider using hybrid rings and the coupling from stripline to the feedpoint of patch is achieved by a thin metal probe. This method avoids the radiation losses due to feed lines at high frequencies and is extremely useful for scanning-array applications. There is also considerable improvement in the bandwidth of patch antennas as compared to the conventional feeding techniques. The results on single patch and array of 8 elements are presented showing good impedance match over 10% bandwidth at X-band.
