Abstract
Algorithms for the conversion of signed BCD number to its equivalent negabinary number and vice versa are proposed. Basic cells are designed and cellular array structures are developed for the conversions. These structures are suitable for geometric expansion if the number of input bits is large.

A. Mathialagan
Dr. A. Mathialagan received the BE degree in Telecommunication Engineering in 1963 and the MSc (Engg) degree in Electronic devices and circuits in 1973 both from the University of Madras. He received the PhD degree in the area of Computer Engineering from the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore in 1981.
In 1964 he served the Madras State Electricity Board as Junior Engineer, Power line carrier communication for a few months. Subsequently, he joined the Madras Institute of Technology (which is now a constituent institute of Anna University, Madras) where he is currently Professor of Instrument Technology and Head of the Computer Centre.
