Abstract

An experimental microwave troposcatter communication link established between the Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi, and the Central Electronics Engineering Research Institute, Pilani, is described briefly in the paper. The link, which spans 158 km, operates in the C-band.

The fading nature of the signal received over a spread of a few months is analysed with the help of a computerized data acquisition system. Space-diversity signals are analysed in terms of correlation between them, their rate of fading, fade depth, probability distribution function, etc. The median levels and cross-correlation for morning hours are found to be generally higher than those for afternoon hours. No significant variation is found in the density distribution plots upto the minimum sampling rate of 10 Hz for signals received over a period of six minutes. Spectral analysis of the fading signals is also reported.
