Simplification of Linear Time Invariant Systems Using Foster Canonical Form

Abstract

A new method for obtaining reduced order approximate model for high order linear time-invariant systems has been presented. The method is simple and always yields a stable reduced order model if the actual high order model is stable. The method is applicable to continuous-time as well as discrete-time multivariable systems. An example is given. This example illustrates the method as well as shows the effectiveness of the method.
