Microwave Backscattering from a Metallic Cylinder and the Effect of a Concealing Dielectric Plate

Abstract

The field backscattered by a metallic cylinder due to an incident wave of arbitrary linear polarization is investigated. It is shown that maximum depolarization occurs when the cylinder is at 45° to the incident polarization. The influence of shielding the cylinder by various dielectric plates is demonstrated experimentally.
