Abstract
A signal flow-graph representation of 1-D digital filters has been extended to two-dimensions to obtain an iteration scheme for 2-D digital filter realisations. A requirement for successfully iterating the resulting system of simultaneous difference equations is discussed. A soft-ware implementation of the 2-D digital filter by a technique of recursive filtering in space domain is achieved in an efficient manner by generating a sequence of pseudo-instructions for the process of filtering and then executing these instructions for each pair of iteration parameters. The results are compared with those of a straight-forward implementation of the 2-D digital filter. An example is provided illustrating the method. Some details of compilation of pseudo-instructions and its possible applications to microprocessor are also discussed.
