Purpose Designing of Optical Fibre Systems (Invited Paper)

Abstract

This paper gives an outline of the design steps for digital optical links, centered on the power-budget and dispersion criteria. For successful designing, it is necessary to match the optical technology to the full system requirement, and to incorporate an understanding of the production and user environment. This is demonstrated in the paper from practical design experience covering a variety of applications.
