Abstract

Low bit rate (2.4 kb/s) speech coders are very important for secure speech transmission over ordinary telephone lines and for compact storage applications. In this connection, Linear Predictive Coding (LPC) technique has attracted particular attention because of its efficacy and amenability to DSP approach in implementation.

This paper presents a real time implementation of a LPC system on a dedicated bit slice microprocessor based signal processor. It lays stress on the microprogrammed software developed for the purpose. A discussion of the results of the subjective evaluation of the LPC coder is included.
