Abstract

Knowledge based expert systems are finding wider applications due to their capability to provide solutions to problems where very little or no formal methods are available. Expert systems provide a framework to represent and utilise heuristic expert knowledge for solving a variety of real life problems. In order to develop an expert system, a proper design environment consisting of a set of design tools is necessary for the creation and updation of the knowledge base. This paper deals with KET (Kharagpur Expert Tool)—the tool developed to support design activities. The process of developing an expert system using KET has been presented along with the details of it's various components.
