Gopal K Dubey

Gopal K Dubey was born on Nov 17, 1939. He received the B E (Hons) degree from Jabalpur University, Jabalpur, India in 1963, the MTech degree in electrical drives and control, and the PhD degree from the Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay, India, in 1965 and 1972, respectively.

He was a teacher trainee from 1963 to 1966, a Lecturer from 1966 to 1972, and an Assistant Professor from 1973 to 1977, all in the Department of Electrical Engineering, Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay. He was an Honorary Visiting Research Fellow and Commonwealth Scholar at the University of Bradford, Bradford, England, from October 1974 to December 1975, and a Visiting Professor at the University of British Columbia, Vancouver, Canada, from August 1983 to August 1984, and at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, Blacksburg, USA from September 1984 to June 1985. He has been a Professor at the Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur, since 1978.

His fields of interest are electrical drives, power electronics, control systems, and engineering education. He has authored two books: Power Semiconductor Controlled Drives, Prentice Hall 1989 and Thyristorised Power Controllers, Wiley Eastern, 1986. He has published around 120 research papers in the international and national journals. He was awarded Bimal Bose award of IETE in 1990 for his contributions in the area of Power Electronics.

Dr Dubey is a member of the Scientific Advisory Committee of the Govt of India on Power since 1986. He is a life fellow of Institution of Engineers, a Senior Member of IEEE, and life member of ISTE. He has been the chairman of IEEE UP Subsection since Jan 1989.
