Abstract
An application of microcomputer spreadsheet to the design and performance evaluation of a sliding mode controller for a chopper fed separately excited DC motor is presented. The design is based on a geometric approach for finding out the hyperplane for discontinuous control. The controller has been implemented on a personal computer based drive. The experimental results demonstrate the effectiveness of the controller in improving the system response. A fairly close agreement is observed between the simulated and practical results.
