Abstract

This paper describes an S-Band system for controlling uplink transmitter frequency to facilitate lock acquisition for the remote Phase Locked Loop receiver. Basic requirements of a system to work as an exciter to the ground based uplink transmitters, catering for command and ranging operations, are explained. The exciter, explained here, is designed for Indian Remote Sensing Satellite mission of ISRO. The design and philosophy given here, is also applicable as an exciter to ground based uplink transmitters of any Spacecraft/Rocket/Missile/Deepspace probes where the Tracking, Telemetry and Command system is operating in the integrated S-Band. It can also be adopted whereever phase modulated (PM) transmitters are required.
