Scattering of Very High Frequency Waves in Turbulent Troposphere

Abstract

An attempt has been made in this paper to estimate the attenuated power of very high frequency waves propagating in turbulent troposphere. Considering the random fluctuations of dielectric constant, as suggested by Booker and Gordon, Dolukhanov's result for effective scattering cross section per unit volume has been modilied by using spectral power law of buoyancy subrange of the developed turbulence. This subrange is chosen because the gradient of the spectral curve is a function of turbulent wave number which is again related to the nicchanical wave number. The relation deduced for effective scattering cross section implied that it decreases with increase in scattering angle. The attenuated power of very high frequency wave has been calculated after computing the received power. The results can be applied fruitfully for communication for both civil and military purposes.
