D Dutta Majumder

Dwijesh Kr Dutta Majumder, currently Professor and Head of Electronics and Communication Sciences Unit of Indian Statistical Institute and Co-ordinator of Nodal Centre for Knowledge Based Computing System at Calcutta, received his MSc (Tech) and PhD degrees in Radio Physics & Electronics from Calcutta University in 1955 and 1962 respectively. Since 1955 he is engaged in research and development in different areas of Computer Science and Information Technology such as Memory Technology, Pattern Recognition, Automatic Speech Recognition & Speaker Identification, Image Processing, Fuzzy Set Theory, Computer Vision and Artificial Intelligence. Currently he is engaged in Fifth Generation Computer Systems Development Research Programme of DOE. He is the author and editor of 5 books and more than 300 research publications in the above mentioned fields. He is a Fellow of IETE, CSI, IPS, and INSA and is the recipient of Sir J C Bose Award and R L Wadhwa Gold Medal of IETE, Sir C V Raman Award of Acoustic Society of India, and International Norbert Wiener Award of World Organisation of Cybernetics and Systems (WOGSC). He is a member of the Governing Board of International Association of Pattern Recognition and World Organisation of Systems and Cybernetics and member of the editorial board of several Journals.
