Information Theoretic Approach to ADC Circuits

Abstract

Information theory allows characterization of A/D conversion process into a single parameter called Bitseconds, serving as a rational basis for comparing the relative performance of various ADC techniques. Five circuits are compared for Bitseconds, Clock Requirements and Information Rate. This approach leads to a clue for devising fast converters. One such converter of 300ns is reported.
