Abstract
A technique for detecting the characteristic features of an ECG waveform in real time is provided. The algorithm is based on wavelet transform (WT) which uses a multiscale feature for characterising the signals. The relation between the characteristic points of ECG signal and those of modulus maximum pairs of its WT is analysed. Complex decision rules are applied for detecting the QRS complex, P and T waves. An algorithm that reconstructs a close approximation of ECG signal is described. External noise sources are added to the ECG signal and the performance of the system is tested. The real time algorithm is developed on Texas signal processor chip TMS320C25.
