Abstract
This study shows that one gets a two-lobe radiation pattern, as reported previously for single rectangular microstrip patch antennas, for 2 & 4-element arrays also, when fed with electro magnetic coupling (EMC) from no-radiating side, using just a single open-ended microstrip line. Reflection and radiation measurements show that for four element array, with available range of longitudinal motion of EMC feedline (VSWR < 2), one gets a gain variation of 8-16dB for the lobes and a large variation in band width of 0.045% to 9%. These gain and VSWR variations show interference pattern variation with period of λg/2. In general, the EMC gives flexibility with easily adjustable antenna parameters, which may therefore be of great use as focal antenna for satellite receiver, if used with proper adjustments.
