Prioritized Channel Assignment in Mixed Media Cellular Radio System

Pages 187-192 | Published online: 26 Mar 2015

Abstract

In integrated voice/data cellular network, the channel assignment scheme to new calls/packets and handoffs is investigated. We propose two priority schemes in order to reduce the chances of unsuccessful handoffs. In both schemes finite queueing of handoff packets is taken into account. In scheme 1 (PS1), a fixed number of channels residing in the handoff area are reserved exclusively for handoff attempts. In scheme 2 (PS2) new attempts are allowed to seize the channels of handoff area if available but not at the cost of handoff attempts (calls/packets). We derive blocking probability of new attempts and handoff packets, forced termination probability of handoff calls, carried load, average number of handoff packets in the queue.
