On Mining of Data

Abstract

This paper presents an overview of the fast growing field of Knowledge Discovery in Database (KDD) and Data Mining. Data Mining and knowledge discovery have numerous applications in business and scientific domains. They improve effectiveness, efficiency and enhance the quality of decision making in business organizations and result in interesting discoveries in scientific research. Various techniques of data mining along with some related issues are also presented.

Vasudha Bhatnagar

Vasudha Bhatnagar did BSc (H) Statistics from University of Delhi (1982), MCA from University of Delhi (1985) and has just submitted PhD thesis in the area of Data Mining. Currently she is a Sr. Lecturer in the Dept of Computer Science at Motilal Nehru College, University of Delhi. Her research interests include Database Systems, Knowledge Discovery, Machine learning and Data structures.

S K Gupta

S K Gupta obtained his MSc Mathematics from University of Delhi, followed by PhD from IIT Delhi. Currently he is with the Deptt of Computer Science and Engineering, NT Delhi. Dr Gupta has been the recipient of several prestigious scholarships including NSTS of NCERT, New Delhi. His research interests include Database Systems, Data Mining and Graph Theory. He has been a member of the American Mathematical Society, Life Member of Indian Society of Technical Education and a fellow member of IETE. He has published several papers in international conferences and journals, and has been a member of program committees of several international conferences on data mining.

Published research papers in international journals such as IEEE Trans on Info Theory, info & Control, Lin Alg & AS Appl, Jr of Comb Theory and International Jr of Electronics. Fellow IETE, Member Soc of Mathematical Sciences. Fields of interest: Coding Theory, Data Mining and Executive Information System.
