Pronominal Referent Interpretation System for English Text

Abstract

In this paper a study on the references is performed. An algorithm has been developed to find the referent of implicit anaphora. A representation of noun storage in knowledgebase is devised. The algorithm is designed to identify the presence of implicit anaphora, and is implemented in C++. A prototype lexicon has been designed. The algorithm worked well for test inputs. The results are presented.

Ela Kumar

Eia Kumar obtained her BE (Electronics & Communication Engg) and MTech (Computer Science & Technology) from NT Roorkee (formerly Roorkee University) in 1988 and 1990 respectively. Since then she is actively involved in research work. At present she is working as lecturer (Computer Engg department) in YMCA Institute of Engineering, Faridabad (Haryana). She is carrying out her PhD in the area of Natural Language Processing.

Her research area includes natural language processing, anaphora resolution, pragmatic and discourse processing, requirement engineering, goal modeling, design of natural language interfaces to intelligent machines.

J R P Gupta

JRP Gupta was born at Lahladpur, Patna in 1948. He received his BSc (Engg) from Muzafarpur Institute of Technology (MIT), Muzzafarpur and PhD from Bihar University in 1972 and 1983 respectively. After serving Post and Telegraph Department, Government of india for nearly three years, he joined MIT, Muzzafarpur as Assistant Professor in Electrical Engineering Department in 1976. He then switched over to Regional Institute of Technology (RIT), Jamshedpur in 1986 and then to Netaji Subhash Institute of Technology (NSIT), Delhi in 1994 as Professor of Instrumentation and Control Engineering Department. He was Head of Instrumentation and Control Engineering for about 7 years. He has also served as Dean, Students Welfare, Dean Administration, and Dean of Academic Affairs of Netaji Subhash Institute of Technology. His research interests include Power Electronics, Power quality assessment of electrical power systems, Computer Controlled Processes, Artificial Intelligence and Intelligent Instrumentation. He has published about thirty research papers in international and national journals and conferences and has guided a number of MTech and PhD thesis.
