Abstract

Image compression techniques are very much needed for applications such as transmission and storage in databases with the fast evolution of Multimedia system. Wavelet transforms have received significant attention recently due to their suitability for a number of important signal and image compression applications and they have established their viability for such applications. This is mainly due to the lapped nature of this transform and the computational simplicity, which comes in the form of filter bank implementations. In this paper, the performance of Embedded Zero tree Wavelet (EZW) coder for different levels of decomposition, with and without entropy encoding and for different scanning order are analyzed for Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) Images. PSNR is used as the criteria for the measurement of reconstructed image quality.
