Distributed SM MPPT Controller for Solar PV System Under Non-Uniform Atmospheric Conditions

Abstract

This paper presents a diverse distributed maximum power point tracking (MPPT) method based on Cuk converter for solar photovoltaic system. The proposed MPPT method offers fast dynamic performance with absolute robustness by the concept of sliding mode control law to control the Cuk converter. The proposed configuration improves the dynamic response and reduces the ripple to considerable amount, resulting in their operation closer to maximum power point. Simulation is carried out to analyze the system behavior in response to varying atmospheric condition and the analytical results are also validated with simulation results.

R Durga Devi received the BE degree from the Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering from Kalasalingam Institute of Technology, Tamil Nadu, India in 2012 and ME degree in power electronics and drives from Alagappa Chettiar College of Engineering and Technology, Tamil Nadu, India in 2014. She is currently pursuing the PhD degree at Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Anna University, Tamil Nadu, India. Her present research interests are power converter circuits for renewable energy system, control of power converters and solar PV system.

S Nageswari received the BE degree in electrical and electronics engineering from Government College of Engineering, Tirunelveli, India, in 1997, ME degree in power electronics and drives from Government College of Technology, Coimbatore, India in 2005. She obtained her PhD from Anna University, India in 2014. She is presently working as assistant professor in the Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering in Alagappa Chettiar College of Engineering and Technology, Karaikudi, India.
