Total Resistance and Total Capacitance of Two-Element Kind of Driving Point Functions

, &

Abstract

The relations for total capacitance (Ct) and total resistance (Rt) of an RC driving point (DP) impedance Z(s) are derived in terms of coefficients of polynomials of numerator and denominator of Z(s). The proposed method uses the structures of the canonic realizations of Z(s) and the values of Z(s) and sZ(s) at s = 0 and ∞. These values which can be determined easily without any knowledge of the actual values of the elements. The method is, therefore, simpler than other known methods. The values of Rt and Ct obtained from the relations derived and by classical methods are found exactly the same. These results are then extended to LC and RL DP functions.
