Abstract
Any academic program development in a small college is constrained by resource and staffing availability, financial and library support, and the marketability of the program. Gerontology program development in Florida, given the demographic reality of the growth in the population aged 65 and older, is an acceptable and highly marketable program for an institution with a strong career preparation orientation. Such a program should meet, however, the Association for Gerontology in Higher Education standards and guidelines for gerontology program development.
