Abstract

The African genus Rhampholeon Günther 1874 comprises a small group of basically similar, short-tailed, dwarf chameleons distributed through central and east Africa with the epicentre of speciation in Tanzania. Three species are currently known from Malawi, one of which is endemic. In this paper a further new endemic taxon from southern Malawi is described. Recent literature on the genus is discussed in relation to subgeneric grouping, and an updated key to the genus given.
