Cape Verdean millipedes (Diplopoda)

Abstract

The following species of millipedes (Diplopoda) are recorded from the Cape Verde Islands (species marked with ! are new to the islands): Anopsxenus indicus Condé & Jacquemin 1963 (!), Lophoturus madecassus (Marquet & Condé 1950) (!), Orthomorpha coarctata (Saussure 1880), Oranmorpha guerinii (Gervais 1836) (!), Brachydesmus superus Latzel 1884, Cylindrodesmus laniger Schubart 1944, Prosopodesmus jacobsoni Silvestri 1910 (!), Periechodesmus caudatus Silvestri 1947 (!), Dilophops bullatus Loomis 1934 (!, also recorded as new from Bali, Indonesia), Paraspirobolus dictyonotus (Latzel 1895) (!), Trachyiulus nordquisti (Attems 1909) (!), Spinotarsus caboverdus Pierrard 1987, Dolichoiulus obscuripes Enghoff 1992, D. simplex Enghoff 1992, D. caboverdensis Enghoff 1992. P. caudatus (hitherto known only from Brazil), Dilophops bullatus (hitherto known only from West India), and C. laniger (widespread) are represented only by females and are probably parthenogenetic.
