Abstract
Four new species of Autalia Leach 1819 are described, two from Costa Rica (monteverdensis and bierigt), one from Mexico (yoopaa), one from Brazil (chapada), and illustrations of diagnostic features are provided. New distributional data is given for A. phricotrichosa Hoebeke 1988 (from Guatemala), originally described from Chiapas, Mexico. A unique morphological character of sternum VII (of both sexes), a supposed synapomorphy for the known Autalia species of Mexico and tropical America, is described and discussed. A preliminary key to the Neotropical species is given.
