Interaction between juvenile Clibanarius erythropus hermit crabs before and after a period of isolation: provisional results

Pages 23-26 | Received 09 Jan 1992, Published online: 21 Jun 2013

Abstract

Some preliminary conclusions were drawn from a comparison between wild and laboratory born juvenile hermit crabs C. erythropus: in the former the behavioural repertoire consisted chiefly of a series of visual displays. A short period of isolation seemed to enhance their aggressive tendencies. The lack of social experience in the laboratory born juveniles had no appreciable effects on the quality of the action patterns.
