Observations on the drifting behaviour of bees

Pages 33-36 | Received 09 Jan 1992, Published online: 21 Jun 2013

Abstract

An analysis is made of the drifting phenomenon between different colonies of Apis mellifera ligustica Spin, and on the basis of direct observation and reference to the literature, a hypothesis is put forward concerning the influence of various components on this phenomenon. It is concluded that drifting is only one aspect of a more general and constant phenomenon of dispersal of the bees between the hives situated in one biotope.
