Abstract
The hero of his ballad, Davy Green, an only son, decided to leave his wealthy home in New York and a carefree career when the call of Zion reached him. He joined the “Seventh Formation,” of Galilean fame, otherwise called the “Seventh Light Brigade,” the only unit consisting solely of “Mahal” soldiers, volunteers from abroad. He was killed in the War of Liberation while on night patrol. The ballad is the author's tribute to his friend as well as a message of comfort to his mother.
The author of the ballad, the first part of which is here reproduced, comes from British Columbia, now resident in Israel.
