Abstract

“…a return to thoughtless, nay, barbaric anti-semitism is merely evidence of a degeneration of socialist thought, theory, and practice”.

Professor Levy, who has just celebrated his 80th birthday, played a leading role in left-wing intellectual circles until his retirement a few years ago, and is greatly admired by them for his scientific approach to practical politics. He has written ‘Jews and the National Question’ in which, as a Marxist, he condemned Soviet policy towards her Jewish citizens as being contrary to Marxian principles. Among other works he wrote ‘The Universe of Science’. His earlier contributions to this magazine included essavs on Albert Einstein and Baruch Spinoza.
